There is a manual release, it's located behind a square piece of trim on the bottom of the lift gate. Check The Power Liftgate Fuse. The fuse box is usually under the hood and on the right side of the engine bay. Check the power liftgate fuse to see if it has blown or if it has any other issues. This is a convenience feature, if the system detects the key is in range it will automatically unlock the hatch when the button is depressed.

May want to first check your fuse box to make sure the liftgate fuse wasn't somehow blown during battery replacement. :edit: Also if fuse looks good, another step you can try is to manually open and close the liftgate using the emergency latch inside. a '16 CX9 user fixed theirs by disconnecting battery terminal but that was for a windshield ...

Manually move the liftgate to the desired height you’d like it to stop at. Press and hold the liftgate button until it beeps. Liftgate is now programmed to stop at the desired height. After you’ve finished this process, close the liftgate via its corresponding button.

Both times all I had to do was disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about 30 seconds.. then reconnect, and that’s it, the rear gate will auto-reset. Nov 15, 2018 · Hatchback versions of the car don't have an unlock function for the hatch. The hatch is simply always locked. It is unlocked and opened in the single activity of pressing the rectangular button in back. There is no other unlock or open mechanism for the hatch using the key fob, or door buttons, or within the car.
I got curious and ended up searching and reading from several other forums about the same complaint, some with very sad consequences such as damage with it opening inside a garage, to a person having a laptop with years worth of pictures stolen.
