When the actuator is removed a metal gear with a small tab can be seen at the end of the door shaft The door is weighted so that the door flap falls towards the floor, which then orients the gear to the proper position.

What I did was removed the glove box, and then the mount that the glove box attaches to. The problem is that I CANNOT get to the screws because of the location. I noticed about a month ago that my HVAC system is always shooting air out of the dash vents, even when I have chosen just the defroster or just the feet vents. In addition, it seems that air only comes out of my passenger side defroster, not the driver's side, which has been quite inconvenient. I think the problem is a bad Mode Door Actuator.
