Mar 26, 2024 · I recently got a '17 L5P, ~83,000 miles. Let me preface by saying I have owned 12 diesels, (4) Powerstrokes, (2) Duramaxes, (5) Cummins and a Ecodiesel. I am not new to them. I struggle to get more then 15-15.5 mpg in this truck and its driving me nuts. Dash MPG's aren't even remotely close except for the 400+ mile range which is about 1 mpg high. Regen issues, thumping sound from the motor, and a few other smaller things. The fuel pumps don't appear to be an issue on the L5P motors. At least not in the sense the LML trucks were.1) the filter will not physically fit. The diameter is too big (cooler changed in 2020) and without relocating the secondary coolant pump, it's too long. 2) the CAT filter adapters sold previously don't work as the oil cooler threads have changed now. 3) the CAT filter has no internal bypass valve.
